The federal cabinet has approved the
most-wanted decision of easing restrictions in the lockdown after May 11. The
ease in lockdown brings good news for small business owners like garment/cloth
sellers, shoe shop owners, mechanics, and spare parts shop owners. Earlier, we
also witnessed that the lockdown was not truly being observed by the general
public as they can be seen on the roads and in the grocery shops without
following the SoP’s recommended by the government.
It was rumored that the government will be
forced to open the markets and transport in the coming week. But,
unfortunately, the government’s policy of ease in restrictions has been misinterpreted
by people as complete removal of lockdown. While the cabinet has only allowed a
few, specific industries to reopen to prevent an economic collapse, but many
people have taken it as a green signal to return to their pre-lockdown
routines.
The traffic has returned to the streets,
businesses not included by the cabinet are reopening, as traders and other
groups mount pressure on lawmakers and threaten to disregard their decisions.
Encouraged by the actions of clerics, they feel that they too can get away with
flouting government policy.
Pakistan now has over 23000 cases with
the biggest surge in a single day yesterday after the announcement of ease in
restrictions. This also raises concerns over how sincerely can they be expected
to follow SOPs if and when restrictions are officially lifted. If this
disregard for government’s instructions as well as pleas from medical experts
continues, Pakistan will inevitably find itself under complete lockdown yet
again due to widespread transmission.
There are confusion and a state of chaos
in the government corridors and among the masses regarding the effectiveness of the decision taken during this crisis as nobody can predict the outcomes. The ease
in the lockdown has become inevitable for the people. We can see them suffering
now as the small business owners have shopkeepers have been severely hit by the
lockdown. Festive days are coming and people are deprived of resources. The
transports must be opened as people will be looking for the means to commute to
their home towns on Eid. The government has shown a ray of hope that local
busses and inter-city transport will be opened but it should also consider the opening of some trains which carry the flux of provincial commuters.
This also comes with social
responsibility as people must take this very seriously. Ease in the lockdown
doesn’t mean that they are not immune to the disease. It is spreading like a
wildfire and social distancing is imperative in these circumstances. We must
consider the use of masks and favorable distance while performing our duties
and business. All we can do is to pray that we get rid of this crisis soon with minimal human casualties.
nice one bro. you are right in mentioning that the people are not aware of the dangers and are probably thinking that everything is going to be normal. no one is going to follow the SOPs by the government and we should expect another more severe lockdown in the future.
